FA1000S_Ζ is a coupling device for laser beams between free space and optical fibers using an aspherical lens.
As shown in the following figure, called "Sphere gimbal mechanism"(Patent No. 5888775, JP), a sphere rotating element archives no translational shift during the adjustment. You can rotate the fiber axis without any shifting. It is enabled by the position of center of rotation which is located precisely at the tip of the fiber.
Adjustment screws are special fine-pitch threaded with very little backlash developed for ultra-stable mirror-mount, MM1000S. Also, "Soft Lock mechanism" (Patent Application No. 2005-352867, JP) is adopted in order to realize the long-term stability and operability. They will be great help to make it easy alignment, achieve long-term stability at the same time.
Furusawa lab. at The University of Tokyo achieved 98% coupling efficiency in an evaluation setup as follows.
